The Essence of Democracy: Corporations vs Gangs PDF Print E-mail
Written by FAME
Monday, 30 January 2012 13:20

We all know money matters and some might say it helps increase power. I happen to believe that money matters everywhere in society even at its lowest level. It affects the type of food you can afford to buy; the type of cloths and maybe even the home you live in. Sometimes I wonder why if money matters to virtually everyone, it is only vaguely understood? Money has a rich history around the world and knowing the power of money is as important if not more important than making the money.

Today there are not many things money cannot buy, this is to include people. If we were to go way back to the days of slavery, we could see how money was a deciding factor in the fate of many innocent people. One should ask, what is the true essence of our democracy? I am inclined to believe that it must include the luxurious history of money and power. This brings me to my broader question of power and money.

When looking at the rising cost of everything from eggs to the energy we consume, at what point does the public become outraged? The Poetic Justice of not fully understanding money is to not value the influence it has on our everyday lives. When ordinary families are making decisions on things like gas for their vehicles or food for the family, there is a fundamental flaw in our Democracy. Have we relinquished our freedom to a particular group as if we were initiated in a gang?

Are we just following rules and behaviors of the masses to avoid the feeling of being an outcast? Is it not bad enough that in small towns and some larger cites all across America business are being forced to close their doors? Is this a new America, where groups who yield power and influence keep all the money to themselves? I am proposing these questions in my ongoing effort to characterize the current state of our Democracy. Today Corporations to include the rich seem to be driven by the same ideologies of gangs such as the Bloods and Crips.

If you fully understood the history of gangs, it would be easier to recognize the similarities. For starters this country was founded on the principles of gang affiliation. In theory we still have gangs running our country today to the likes of Demarcates and Republican. Some would even argue the police department and other government agencies should be implicated in this characterization. Gangs became more popular and mainstream when they began to organize. Today gangs are only synonymous with youth and illegal activities such as street crimes.

Considering the history of gangs, this loose association to our youth is feeding the mis-information machine. Gangs can be positive and they are not always ill intended, just look at Corporations. I took the liberty to look up the definition of both gangs and corporations to be fair. The Free Dictionary defines gangs as a group of criminals or hoodlums who band together for mutual protection and profit. While it defines Corporations as a group of people combined into or acting as one body for profit.

With just these two definitions alone one could see how strikingly similar Corporations are to Gangs. Both seem to have similar purpose, which is to form a group for mutual protection and often time profit. What you rarely hear about is the types of power that comes from forming these groups. One might argue if Corporations can exercise human rights violations against individuals, there really isn’t a difference from street crime and white collar crime. The question we should all be asking is what principles define a strong democracy and can we continue to forfeit power over to groups who may not be working in the best interest of America. After all if Freedom is truly what we all seek then forming groups is in direct assault to that principle, right?

Ice Cube Accuses Hillary Clinton Of Waging War On Black People PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sean Adl-Tabatabai

Rapper and filmmaker Ice Cube has accused Hillary Clinton and her supporters of waging a war against black people, saying that her comments in 1996 helped to encourage police brutality against black people which then gave rise to the Black Lives Matter movement.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Ice Cube said, “To call your own citizens ‘Superpredators’ is pretty harsh and a pretty big indictment. It’s really not solving the problem, it’s just making it worse. Now the authorities feel like their justified in how they treat these so-called ‘Superpredators.’”

Ice Cube was referring to Hillary Clinton’s 1996 comments where she said America needs to bring “no conscience, no empathy, superpredator gangs of kids to their heels.” Hillary was rallying support for President Bill Clinton’s violent crime legislation, laws that Ice Cube says caused more harm than good.

“The L.A.P.D. did a war on gangs,” Cube said. “But if I’m a black kid that’s not in a gang but I look like a gang member to this white officer, than it’s a war on me.”

China's leading Internet television company, announced that it will kick off the Year of the Dragon with new seasons of the popular Youku Original web serials "Hip-Hop Office Quartet" and "Miss Puff" starting this month.

"Hip-Hop Office Quartet," which starts its fourth season this Valentine's Day, debuted in November 2008 as Youku's first foray into longer-form in-house production. A sharp send-up of contemporary Chinese office culture, it received an average of more than 3.6 million views per episode, and was China's first web series to reach 100 million views. The most-viewed episode of the series was watched nearly 20 million times.

The animated series "Miss Puff," scheduled to return on March 12 for its third season, follows a material girl as she negotiates the twists and turns of Chinese urban life. The serial's first season, which debuted in April 2011, was viewed more than 38 million times -- an average of 2.9 million views per episode, with a single-episode record of 4.3 million views.

"We envisioned our Youku Original strategy as a way to combine Youku's understanding of our viewership with the creative talents of the young artists and directors we work with," said Youku Senior Vice President Frank Ming Wei. "The continued popularity of 'Hip-Hop Office Quartet' and 'Miss Puff' shows that Youku is unparalleled in its ability to create refreshing and engaging content that resonates with our over 300 million viewers."

Youku Original is a key part of the company's content strategy, which covers a combination of licensed professionally produced content, in-house productions from Youku Original, and user-generated content (UGC). Youku Original has released 15 productions, 13 of which placed in the monthly Top 20 most-viewed rankings and 11 in the monthly Top 10 most-viewed rankings on Youku Index during the period in which they were aired.

The "11 Degrees New Media" project, a Youku Original-produced campaign for Chevy Cruze that included the animated short that introduced the character of Miss Puff, was named "Best Contribution to a Campaign by a Media Owner" by the Festival of Media Asia Awards in November 2011. "Father," a web film produced for Youku by the makers of the popular "Old Boys" and "The Ultimate Winner," received over 2 million views within 24 hours of its debut, and was named "Audience Favorite" at last month's Harbin Film Festival.

Tampa Bay Rap Group Splitta Squad PDF Print E-mail

Tampa Bay rap group Splitta Squad explodes on the scene with their latest offering. This time Splitta Squad blesses the masses with the motivationally charged official remix video to their blazing single, “Superstar.”

The official remix to “Superstar” features famed Florida rappers Lil Kee (Buss It Wide Open) and Famous Kid Brick (I’m On It.) The song was produced by M. Brell. The video, which was shot on location in Tampa, was directed by videographer Jeff Osbourne. The “Superstar Remix Video” was released Monday, January 16, 2012, in memorandum of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“We felt like it was a good idea to remix Superstar with two popular Florida based rappers. We’re all from the same area with one common dream-to be a superstar. What better way than to release the Remix on Martin Luther King Day? He has played a role in inspiring us to believe in our dreams,” states Splitta Squad artist Great.

Over the last year, Splitta Squad has been preparing for the release of their forthcoming album, “The Re-Creation.” It will epitomize a more modern day approach to feel-good music. Since 2004, this has been the goal of Splitter Records/Splitta Squad.

With the growing success of their crossover smash single, “Superstar,” the rest of album should be full of hits,” says Julia Beverly - Ozone Magazine.

When most people think of Splitter Records/Splitta Squad, they automatically think of Tampa Tony, previously Splitter Record’s main priority. Tampa Tony’s success was renowned for being the only rapper from Tampa reaching outside the limits of the music industry. Splitter Records has been able to successfully brand itself by putting out merchandise such as: Da Splitta (selling 40,000+ & featured in High Times Magazine), Bobble Heads, and even their own line of DS Sneakers.

Not only were they able to brand themselves, Splitter Records was also able to maintain a great fan base with southern classics such as “Keep Jukin,” “She Lies,” “Bobblehead,” “Can’t Juke Without Me,” and most noted Trick Daddy’s “J.O.D.D.,” which features Tampa Tony and Khia. “J.O.D.D.” was featured in the movies – Into The Blue & 40 Year Old Virgin as well as the video game – Midnight Club 3 – Dub City.

Due to the unfortunate circumstances of Tampa Tony, the label has been forced to redirect its focus. Splitter Records has now introduced Great Things Ent. & Da Splitta Squad, which consists of rappers Great & Chuck, whom have been with the label since day one. They have ultimately become a true product of what Florida has to offer and are well on their way to becoming the next major thing out of the their market.
