Grammy-Award winner Spinderella and spin veteran Disc Jockeys DJ Irie, DJ Skribble and reigning Flavor Battle champ DJ JayCeeOh will join iconic rapper and "human beat boxer" Doug E. Fresh and singer/actress/rapper Teyana Taylor in Miami Beach as three of America's hottest DJs scratch, mix and battle for the McDonald's 2012 Flavor Battle Championship title. McDonald's Flavor Battle is a national DJ competition celebrating artistic mix-masters who spin their creative blend of hip-hop music in nightclubs across America.

McDonald's 2012 Flavor Battle will take place on February 9 and will be broadcast live via online simulcast at http://www.flavorbattle.com. Flavor Battle is conducted with Complex Media, the men's style and lifestyle network dedicated to young men 18-34, and is a private, ticketed event. DJ Rock T will serve as the house DJ for the event.

Three DJ finalists from across the U.S. – each representing a McDonald's Big Burger – the Angus Third Pounder, Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Big Mac, will take to the turntables before a packed house in an epic, best-in-booth battle to earn bragging rights as the nation's top mix-master. Hip hop veteran Doug E. Fresh will emcee Flavor Battle as Spinderella, DJ Irie, DJ Skribble and DJ JayCeeOh judge the competition based on mixing skills, technique, performance flow and crowd appeal. Teyana Taylor will take Flavor Battle global by hosting the Twitter conversations and sharing photos generated from the live event.

McDonald's launched Flavor Battle in 2009 as an extension of McDonald's 365Black initiative. McDonald's 365Black platform was created to celebrate the pride, heritage and achievements of African-Americans year round.

President Obama Sings Al Green's 'Let's Stay Together,' Sales Jump 490% PDF Print E-mail

Who knew the President would be a one-man stimulus package for the music industry?

A day after President Obama sang a bit of Al Green's classic "Let's Stay Together" from the podium at a January 19th fundraising event in Harlem, videos of the crooner-in-chief went viral on YouTube, racking up millions of views. But it wasn't just Obama's version of the song that the web's music fans sought out: according to Nielsen (via Billboard), digital download sales for Green's version of the song jumped up 490% in the period ending on January 22nd.

With 16,000 downloads, the song had its most successful online sales week since Nielsen began keeping track of web transactions in 2003. It's good news for Green's wallet, just as the President's cover was music to his ears.

"He nailed it," Green told TMZ, praising Obama's rendition. In fact, the singer was just "thrilled that the president even mentioned my name."

Sunday, 29 January 2012 13:57

From her sky-high gold boots to her oversize jewelry, Erykah Badu has been known to show off her eye-catching fashion sense on stage.  Perhaps that's why she's been invited to join Grammy Glam, a red-carpet event sponsored by The Recording Academy and three cosmetics companies that will kick off the Academy's Grammy Week, leading up to the 54th Annual Grammy Awards.  The event is designed to celebrate the connection between music and glamour.

The Grammy Award-winning Badu will reprise her role as DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown, treating the crowd to a special music set at MyHouse in Hollywood on Tuesday, February 7 where CoverGirl, Olay and Venus will set up a series of beauty-themed rooms.  DJ Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa will also take a turn on the wheels of steel, joining new DJ duo The Jane Doze.  Female fans who can't be at the event will have a chance to show off their spinning skills, too, by entering the Grammy Glam room on Turntable.fm.  Their selections will be spotlighted virtually at the event during The Doze's opening act.
