Mutulu Shakur, stepfather of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role in the 1981 heist of a Brinks armored truck.

Shakur was expected to die behind bars but is now free after serving half of his sentence in California.

Nyack police officers Edward O'Grady and Waverly "Chipper" Brown, along with Brinks Security Guard Peter Paige, were gunned down during the heist.

The Brinks Robbery Memorial at the Exit 11 Thruway entrance stands as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice given by the men.

Shakur's release comes 10 years after the release of Kathy Boudin, who served 23 years of a life sentence for her role in the murders and is now a professor at Columbia University.

Tupac Shakur's 1996 death continues to spur several theories as to who killed the legendary East Harlem rapper. The latest unexpected accusation, from Los Angeles Police Department investigator Greg Kading in a forthcoming Netflix documentary Murder Rap on Shakur's and Biggie Smalls' murders, claims rapper Puff Daddy ordered the hit.

Kading, who led special task force investigations of Shakur's and Smalls' deaths, claims in the film that the two notorious murders were connected — that Diddy ordered the hit with a Crips gang member on Shakur and that Shakur's manager Suge Knight responded by ordering a hit with a Bloods gang member on Notorious B.I.G. six months later, according to BET.

DMX is out of the hospital after collapsing in the parking lot of a Yonkers, N.Y., hotel on Monday night, his attorney said Tuesday.
The 45-year-old rapper, real name Earl Simmons, didn't have a pulse when authorities arrived, police told the Associated Press. Murray Richman, DMX's lawyer, told the AP that although he didn't know why his client stopped breathing, the performer does suffer from asthma.
"Just got off the phone with the DOG . He's good and in great spirits Thanks for all the blessings," collaborator Swizz Beatz tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

Suge Knight and Katt Williams are not guilty. At least, that’s what Suge Knight and Katt Williams say.

Former hip-hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight and comedian Williams pleaded not guilty to a robbery charge during their arraignment on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office told TheWrap.

Knight and Williams are accused of taking a photographer’s camera in Sept. 2014 outside a studio in Beverly Hills.

Earlier this month, a judge determined that there was enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Knight and Williams are next due in court on Nov. 30 for a pretrial hearing.

In addition to the robbery case, Knight also faces charges of murder and attempted murder stemming from a fatal car incident  in Compton, Calif., in January, which left Terry Carter dead and Cle Sloan injured. Knight has also pleaded not guilty to those charges.
