Project: A.R.T. (awareness.respect.truth), in conjunction with Heilmann Community Center, presents Hip Hop 101: Rhyme & Reason, an after- school writing and performance workshop for up & coming pre-teen to young adult poets, hip hop and rap artists, and songwriters. The workshops will focus on developing and mastering the art forms of hip hop emceeing, spoken and written word and stage performance.

In Rhyme & Reason youth will...

* Meet in weekly workshops

* Perform and organize open mics

* Collaborate on creating songs and poetry pieces for a CD

* Be exposed to established and up and coming performance artist

The program will be 12 weeks. It is open to youth (10 - 18) with a commitment to enhance their artistry or those who want an outlet to express themselves.

There are beginner, intermediate, and advanced sessions available.

Auditions will be held at the  Heilmann Community Center 19601 Crusade (near State Fair), Detroit, MI  48205 on Detroit's upper eastside, 313-224-9334 on April 2nd & 9th starting at 5pm.

Talent interested in participating in the program must fill out an application and parents must give permission for students who are under 13 to participate in the program.

 

This program is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. All music, lyrics, content, performances will be of a positive and/or conscious nature. No student will be permitted to use profane language or glorify street / hip hop culture. The purpose of this program is to promote professionalism, community awareness and integrity. Both boys and girls are welcome to audition.
