Hip-hop culture can thank Afeni Shakur for making sure her son’s legacy will remain strong and intact in the future.

The mother of the late rap icon has done many things to insure that the name and the legacy of Tupac Amaru Shakur is carried on.

Thru album releases, the movie Tupac Resurrection and the many charitable causes Afeni Shakur has be steadfast in her dedication to her son’s legacy.

As the true fans of the man Tupac Shakur know, he was much more than a gangsta rap artist and he had ruff edges; but was not the ‘thug’ that the mainstream media portray him as.

Afeni’s dedication to her son is very admirable. She has taken some flack over some of the projects that have come out, but fans need to remember that nothing is perfect and to the best of my knowledge Afeni has never claimed to be god. We all make mistakes and we learn and we carry on  with our mission in life.

The Loyal to the Game album enraged many fans of Tupac and many were very vocal about it. But in the big picture of Tupac’s legacy fans must remember that music was just one part of Tupac’s life. He was not the ordinary rapper. How many rappers can you name that have written a book of poetry or had tracks with real meaning in them?

That said we now turn to Stone Mountain Georgia where the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts is being constructed.

A part of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts is 6-acre “peace garden.” Beautifully landscaped with flowers, wooden benches, and a huge pond in the image of the well recognized gothic cross Tupac had tattooed on his back. And now a 7-foot bronze statue of the rapper has been erected in the middle of the pond.

As Afeni ‘builds’ this tribute to Tupac’s legacy we will add pictures as we can get them so all the fans can see the progress of Afeni’s mission.

Here are some pictures of the Peace Garden Entrance and the statue of Tupac.
