Some of Hip-Hop's and Rap’s most revolutionary artists in New York City are supporting Charles Barron's run for congress in the 10th Congressional  District. On Thursday June 29th, 2006, hip-hop rap artists M1 of Dead Prez, Killah Priest, DCQ of Medina Green, and many others join former Black Panther and NYC Councilman Charles Barron at the Lab in Brooklyn at 1483 Fulton Street for a benefit concert.

This is not the first time Charles Barron has been supported by the Hip-Hop community. Last year, when New Jersey raised the bounty on revolutionary, (and aunt of slain hip-hop icon Tupac (2Pac), Assata Shakur to $1 million, rap artists  Mos Def, Talib Kweli and Dead Prez joined Charles Barron at City Hall for a press conference for Barron's resolution requesting clemency for the freedom fighter.

Hip-Hop has long been an avid fan of Charles Barron for his work around reparations, securing funds to address black male unemployment and high rates of incarceration, his opposition to legislative attacks on graffiti artwork, and his unwillingness to waver on any issue in public office including police brutality. In April, Barron called for quality healthcare for artists at the Congressional Hearing for Artists on Healthcare alongside Congressman John Conyers.

Although, Hip-Hop artists are not apolitical, they are usually apathetic to supporting or endorsing candidates however, M1 of Dead Prez explained, "Without revolutionaries in office, how do we, the people, make revolutionary change? The answer is simple: Charles Barron, a revolutionary, understands that our communities need real "solutionaries" to make real change."

The hip-hop generation has the power to greatly impact electoral politics. Hip-Hop Revolutionaries for Charles Barron is a fundraising concert for Barron?s Congressional Campaign - more appropriately the People?s campaign, which must raise at least $100,000 by the end of June to run a viable campaign. Just $30,000 more for the month of June is needed to achieve this goal. Tickets for the concert are only $25.00 at the door. It is hoped that those who can afford to make an additional campaign contribution will do so during solicitation at the concert. Please spread the word!!!
