More than 12,000 bands have entered the Hard Rock Rising competition for the chance of a lifetime, to be on the bill with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and additional headlining performers at Hard Rock Calling 2012 in London.

After fans choose their favorites, participating Hard Rock Cafe locations around the world will host a series of live competitions featuring the local bands who received top votes. Bands will then be judged live by a panel of local industry experts and participating bands' representatives, with one winner being selected from each location. For full rules and a list of participating locations visit www.hardrock.com.

More than 20 years after his death, jazz legend Miles Davis is being honored by the U.S. Postal Service with his very own stamp.

This year, the "Kind of Blue" trumpeter will be immortalized in a collection of musically-themed stamps that will also honor the singer Edith Piaf, according to The Telegraph. They will be released in partnership with the French postal service, La Poste.

Miles Davis"This is a fitting honor," said Lee Barham, chairman of the steering committee for the Miles Davis Jazz Celebration. "Before Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley, there was Miles Davis."

Mary J. Blige upset over Oscars Best Song snub PDF Print E-mail

Mary J. Blige is upset over her Oscar snub, calling the Academy "mean" for only nominating two songs when up to five songs could be included in the category.

Mary J Blige

The R&B star's theme from "The Help," "The Living Proof," was a pre-nominations favorite, but the song was overlooked when the contenders were announced on Tuesday, along with Elton John's "Gnomeo & Juliet" song "Hello Hello" and Madonna's Golden Globe-winning "Masterpiece" from "W.E." Instead, the Academy selected Bret McKenzie's "Man or Muppet" from "The Muppets" and Sergio Mendes' "Rio" tune "Real in Rio."

Blige shared her disappointment with her Twitter followers, writing, "I'm so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots..." Also missing from the nominations list is the critically-acclaimed tune "Lay Your Head Down," which actress Glenn Close co-wrote for "Albert Nobbs."
