Was Tupac Shakur really a woman hater? PDF Print E-mail

In this current national climate of discounting woman’s worth and respect we ask, was Tupac Shakur really a woman hater as some still contend?

In my view it seems that most people didn't know enough about Tupac to know what his contributions were to artistic culture and society. When I mention to some how our company Thug Life Army was born out of the love for Tupac I still get that he disrespected women. Just like Steven Spielberg making “Schindler's List” didn't make him anti-Semitic. Tupac writing a few verses that mentioned bitches and hoes didn't make him a woman hater when you consider all his work.

In fact, there was more to Tupac than folks give him credit for. When folks hear the whole body of his work you will agree that he had a great respect for his mother Afeni Shakur and women as a whole. Do yourself a favor and youtube Tupac's music and I'm sure you'll agree that his contributions were to bring people together for a common goal. This is evident in his song “Changes” which the Pope added to the Vatican's play list. And the development of “Thug Life Code” which he and Mutulu Shakur scripted in 1992. This code was instrumental in bring together the rival gangs, the Crips and Bloods by spelling out crimes no longer excepted in the urban neighborhoods.

I gauge people on what contributions they leave behind when they leave this world. I feel that if I die penniless but with my family compassionate for others and in tact, I died a rich man. Aside from the monetary value Tupac left behind to Mother Afeni, when she dies she will join her son a rich women. We are all a work in progress, let's hope we leave this world better than when we entered it.

Musically yours,

Frenkie M. Miranda :-{>

Prince has to pay up in perfume dispute PDF Print E-mail
Written by newsdesk@wenn.com
Saturday, 14 April 2012 23:48

Pop star Prince has been told to hand over almost $4 million to bosses at a fragrance company after failing to promote a line of scents for them.

The "Purple Rain" singer was sued by Revelations Perfume and Cosmetics in 2008 for pulling out of an alleged deal to endorse products inspired by his 2006 album "3121."

In legal papers, the company's lawyers claimed bosses spent a fortune on the venture but Prince didn't honor his commitment to promote the perfume.

Revelations executives accused the pop star of refusing to give media interviews and attend in-store events they set up for him.

He also turned down a TV interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2007, which he had allegedly agreed to, and refused to distribute samples of the perfume at his concerts.

A New York Supreme Court judge ruled in the company's favor and confirmed the award on Friday.

As the country sat waiting for the arrest of George Zimmerman a few in the music world made tributes to Trayvon Martin. We are featuring one artist LOS with their tribute named "Wit my hoodie on"

The fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman took place on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida. Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old African American male who was unarmed; George Zimmerman is a 28-year-old man of mixed ethnic descent who at the time of the shooting was acting as a community watch coordinator.

Martin was walking to the home of his father's girlfriend in a gated community where he was staying when Zimmerman began following him, while contacting the Sanford Police Department to report what he described as suspicious behavior. Soon afterward, there was a confrontation that ended with Zimmerman fatally shooting Martin once in the chest at close range.

Organizations representing the music publishers and songwriters, major record labels, digital music services and cellular phone companies today announced an agreement setting mechanical royalty rates and standards that supports a slate of new cutting-edge business models to help consumers access and enjoy music (PDF of agreement attached).

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) and Digital Media Association (DiMA) are filing an industry-wide agreement that fully resolves the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) Rate Proceeding under Section 115 of the Copyright Act.

The settlement provides for the development of new digital music services and business models offering music to consumers by creating new rates and terms under Section 115 for five new categories, which include:
Mixed service bundles (for example, a locker service, limited interactive service, downloads or ringtones combined with a non-music product such as a mobile phone, consumer electronics device or Internet service)
Paid locker services (subscription-based locker providing on-demand streaming and downloads)
Purchased content lockers (a free locker functionally provided to a purchaser of a permanent digital download, ringtone or CD where the music provider and locker have an agreement)
"Limited offerings" (subscription-based service offering limited genres of music or specialized playlists)
Music bundles (bundling music products such as CDs, ringtones and permanent digital downloads)
The 25-page proposed agreement will be submitted to the CRB today by the various parties resolves the pending mechanical royalty rate proceedings without litigation. The agreement covers 2013-2017 and must be formally be approved by the CRB. It establishes a royalty rate category for these new business models and rolls forward, with limited changes, all existing rates and terms for CDs and downloads.
